STOP HALF-ASSING IT

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about why we need to stop half-assing our lives, work, the art we make, and our relationships!

Because of what it really says about our self-respect when we keep settling for “good enough.”

I share a real-life story about a worker with a kinda’ crappy attitude, who left streaky results, and showed practically zero care.

And how that kind of half-hearted effort slowly poisons your reputation, your relationships, and your ability to grow. (Forget about those referrals, kid)

So, if you’re tired of phoning it in (whatever “it” may be for you) and you’re ready to raise your standards...

Plus, you genuinely want to show up full-hearted, and put real love into what you do…

Then hit play on this sucker and let’s dive in together! ❤️

Karen Kenney:

It's the Karen Kenney show. Hey, you guys!

Karen Kenney:

Welcome to the Karen Kenney Show. I hope you're doing super

Karen Kenney:

duper. I got to tell you, I'm feeling pretty good. I'm fresh

Karen Kenney:

out of the shower, and fresh out of the shower, my hair's still

Karen Kenney:

drying, and I'm feeling a little fresh. I'm feeling a little

Karen Kenney:

sassy, a little sassy in the mouth right now. So I'm just

Karen Kenney:

gonna dive into this sucker. You, you, you may have heard me

Karen Kenney:

kind of talk about this topic before. It's definitely

Karen Kenney:

something. Oh my god, this is just something that drives me a

Karen Kenney:

little bit crazy about humans, and I don't want this all to be

Karen Kenney:

like just an episode on on my pet peeves. Really, I just want

Karen Kenney:

to use this as awareness. And remember, everything I say is

Karen Kenney:

from my ears first. You know, everything I say is from my ears

Karen Kenney:

too. So I'm not picking on anybody too much, but I am going

Karen Kenney:

to tell you a little story where it might feel like I'm picking

Karen Kenney:

on somebody, I'm just kind of using them as an example, but

Karen Kenney:

this is just something that kind of grinds my gears, as they say.

Karen Kenney:

So I think I'm just going to call this sucker. Like, stop

Karen Kenney:

half-assing it. Just stop half-assing it. Stop half-assing

Karen Kenney:

what, KK? You might say, stop half-assing your life. Stop

Karen Kenney:

half-assing your work. Stop half-assing your relationships.

Karen Kenney:

Stop half-assing your art. Like whatever you're doing, whatever

Karen Kenney:

you're doing. I really do feel like look. If it's worth doing,

Karen Kenney:

it's worth doing well. You know what I mean, and I get it. I get

Karen Kenney:

it that there might be some little instances where you're

Karen Kenney:

like, I was just throwing together a quick meal. I kind of

Karen Kenney:

half-assed the meal. I just threw some lettuce in a bowl

Karen Kenney:

with the whatever. That like use your common sense, right? Use

Karen Kenney:

your common sense here. There's always exceptions to the rule.

Karen Kenney:

There's always nuances, etc. But let's just kind of get into this

Karen Kenney:

whole half-assing it because I remember being a kid and my

Karen Kenney:

stepfather always, always telling us, right? You know,

Karen Kenney:

don't half-ass shit. If you're gonna do it, do it right. That

Karen Kenney:

was the big. If you're gonna do it, do it right. So it kind of,

Karen Kenney:

it kind of like yeah, got programmed into me, kind of got

Karen Kenney:

drilled into me, but it is a quality, right? I mean, there's

Karen Kenney:

a lot of things. There's a lot of things my stepfather did not

Karen Kenney:

fucking get right, but that was one of them. You know, teaching

Karen Kenney:

us, teaching us to be not afraid of a little hard work, and

Karen Kenney:

putting some care and attention into what we're doing, because

Karen Kenney:

it's not necessarily about the thing, the the the half-assing

Karen Kenney:

it isn't just about the thing you're doing, whether that's you

Karen Kenney:

know writing something or cleaning something or creating

Karen Kenney:

making something, whatever, right? It says something about

Karen Kenney:

you, so that part's important, and we'll come back to it. But

Karen Kenney:

that phrase "half-assing it, you know, it sounds like it would be

Karen Kenney:

kind of a current phrase. It would be a word that didn't

Karen Kenney:

exist until maybe like the 60s, the 70s, whatever. But this

Karen Kenney:

sucker has been around. I found examples of as far back as like

Karen Kenney:

1863, 1863, Somebody wrote the word half-assing it, and they

Karen Kenney:

were using it to describe a general during a time of war.

Karen Kenney:

And some of the people say didn't come on the scene until

Karen Kenney:

like 1932. But when you look it up in the dictionary, there's

Karen Kenney:

all kinds of different ways that it gets described. And I listen,

Karen Kenney:

you guys. When I run down these words, when I run down these

Karen Kenney:

words, I want you to like fine tune, fine tune your ears,

Karen Kenney:

because I don't think any of us ever want to be referred to in

Karen Kenney:

this way. I don't think any of us ever want to be called or

Karen Kenney:

associated with the words I'm about to say. So half ass

Karen Kenney:

meaning mediocre. Oh my God! Who wants to be mediocre? There

Karen Kenney:

might be some things where you're like, yeah, I'm a

Karen Kenney:

mediocre bola, and you're like, fine. But we're talking about if

Karen Kenney:

things matter, like important things, mediocre, insignificant,

Karen Kenney:

inadequate, ineffective, incompetent, incompetent. not

Karen Kenney:

serious, right? I was just like, oh my god, like I don't want to

Karen Kenney:

be described in any of those ways, and hopefully you don't

Karen Kenney:

either.

Karen Kenney:

Now I know sometimes it's funny that word, like, hey, he's like

Karen Kenney:

half-assed, and I half-ass the job, right? Nobody wants

Karen Kenney:

half-assing. Everybody wants. Somebody once said to me, "Does

Karen Kenney:

that mean people want full-assing? Like I don't know.

Karen Kenney:

Maybe there's a better way to say that. But last little

Karen Kenney:

etymology thing I'll tell you is that somebody once said that the

Karen Kenney:

word half-assing it could have been a humorous mispronunciation

Karen Kenney:

of the word half. Right, you can see how it might. If you think,

Karen Kenney:

look at the spelling and the way that it is said, like haphazard,

Karen Kenney:

you can see how it might be like half-assing. You know what I

Karen Kenney:

mean? But here's the thing: this is why it's been on my mind and

Karen Kenney:

on my heart. So I was recently, a friend of mine was out of

Karen Kenney:

town, and I was watching their business for them. I was kind of

Karen Kenney:

like you know, quote unquote. We'll call it quote unquote

Karen Kenney:

manning the desk, right? Like I was representing. I was holding

Karen Kenney:

down the fort, as I like to say. I was holding down the fort in

Karen Kenney:

their absence, and while I was there, like you know, different

Karen Kenney:

people were coming in for like different things, and this one

Karen Kenney:

service worker came in, and they were in the building and doing

Karen Kenney:

they were let's just put it this way they're a window washer

Karen Kenney:

that's what I'm comfortable saying they were a window washer

Karen Kenney:

and the guy comes in and he's in the window and he's got his

Karen Kenney:

little bucket and he's got his squeegees and he's got his he's

Karen Kenney:

got his little towel and stuff like that right the water the

Karen Kenney:

cleanser whatever you know what else he had, though, you guys?

Karen Kenney:

You know what else he had? He had a shitty attitude. That's

Karen Kenney:

what he had. His his dissatisfaction, whether it was

Karen Kenney:

with the day. I mean, it was a gorgeous day out. It was wicked

Karen Kenney:

sunny. I don't know. I could have a problem with the weather.

Karen Kenney:

Whatever that was going on, that was not a happy man. That was

Karen Kenney:

not a happy person. And this dude came in, and he's in. He's

Karen Kenney:

cleaning the window, and I'm like looking at the setup, and

Karen Kenney:

I'm immediately clocking like three ways where this can go

Karen Kenney:

wrong. I'm like, he could step on this, trip on this. So I say

Karen Kenney:

to him, "Would you like me to move that for you? Yeah, yeah.

Karen Kenney:

If you could, yeah. If you could, that that you know, yeah,

Karen Kenney:

that'd be good. Not yes. Thank you. Appreciate it. Like

Karen Kenney:

nothing. Just like attitude, you know. And I was like, wow, this

Karen Kenney:

is so not soothing. And like, let me say this. Let me say

Karen Kenney:

this. If you're somebody that's going to come to my house and

Karen Kenney:

work on anything, whether you're pumping my septic, fixing the

Karen Kenney:

sink, changing the filters on the water filtration system,

Karen Kenney:

cleaning the frigging fireplace, whatever's happening, I'm

Karen Kenney:

usually right there watching and asking a bunch of questions.

Karen Kenney:

Now, I'm not saying that's not annoying to the practitioner,

Karen Kenney:

but I really do it out of genuine curiosity. I am

Karen Kenney:

fascinated by people who do jobs that I don't do. I'm fascinated

Karen Kenney:

by people who have knowledge that I don't have, and I like to

Karen Kenney:

learn new things. And I like to find out about the people who

Karen Kenney:

are doing the work. Right. So hopefully, I don't get in

Karen Kenney:

people's way. I try not to get in their way. I try not to be a

Karen Kenney:

pain in the ass. And I always say to them, if I'm bugging you,

Karen Kenney:

just tell me to scram, beat it, you know. But I usually like to

Karen Kenney:

hang around and like clog, like watch what people are doing,

Karen Kenney:

because I'm fascinated by things and people and life in general.

Karen Kenney:

So I'm watching this guy like clean the windows, and I'm just

Karen Kenney:

thinking to myself, like really, like really, dude. And he's

Karen Kenney:

dripping water on the floor, and the pots that he sees, he wipes

Karen Kenney:

out, but he leaves a bunch of other shit behind. And just like

Karen Kenney:

across the board, shitty attitude, sub par, half-assing

Karen Kenney:

at work, and I was just not impressed.

Karen Kenney:

And you know, through our conversation, because I engaged

Karen Kenney:

him a couple of times to try and like, you know, I was trying to

Karen Kenney:

be not only friendly but say, hey, is anything else I can do

Karen Kenney:

to make this easier for you, whatever? Because I could tell

Karen Kenney:

he was having a bad day, and I was like, I don't know if this

Karen Kenney:

is a permanent state of mind, I don't know if this is a

Karen Kenney:

personality flaw. I don't know what this guy's deal is, but I I

Karen Kenney:

try not to judge people on one interaction because here's the

Karen Kenney:

thing. You know what I can a bad attitude because I don't know

Karen Kenney:

his life story. I don't know what he's going through.

Karen Kenney:

Whatever that day, I can usually forgive that. I'm like, yeah,

Karen Kenney:

person's having a bad day. Chalk it up to a bad day. That's one

Karen Kenney:

thing. Your tone of voice, your energy level might be low. You

Karen Kenney:

don't make eye contact. All that stuff I can handle. But when

Karen Kenney:

somebody is paying you, and look, unless you're a wicked

Karen Kenney:

Richie Richie like Richie Rich, you know, remember that cartoon

Karen Kenney:

Richie Rich? Unless you're like a super duper richy rich these

Karen Kenney:

days. Every penny counts. It's hot out there right now. It's

Karen Kenney:

hot out there. Gas is like 14, 418 a fucking gallon at the

Karen Kenney:

pump. Groceries are like so expensive. Everything is going

Karen Kenney:

up except people's you know wages. You know what I'm saying?

Karen Kenney:

The expenses are expensing, but the income is not growing. The

Karen Kenney:

income is kind of staying the same for a lot of people. It's

Karen Kenney:

rough out there, and so you know. In by and large, a lot of

Karen Kenney:

my friends and people that I know, they're wicked hard

Karen Kenney:

workers. So if somebody is going to be paying you, they're not

Karen Kenney:

just paying you to half ask. The gig, you know what I'm saying?

Karen Kenney:

We we should be able to expect a certain level of effort, a

Karen Kenney:

certain level of care, especially when you're done that

Karen Kenney:

job. You're gonna turn around and you're gonna hand me an

Karen Kenney:

invoice that you expect to be paid. Well, I'm looking at the

Karen Kenney:

windows and I'm like, I literally had to stop myself.

Karen Kenney:

Number one, I'm like, this isn't my business, so I don't want to

Karen Kenney:

sour this relationship between the the business owner and and

Karen Kenney:

the person. But at the same time, I'm watching and I'm

Karen Kenney:

looking up, and these top windows had not been done in a

Karen Kenney:

while, and and because I was like somebody was there, like

Karen Kenney:

not he wasn't just doing the outside. He was able to come in

Karen Kenney:

and do the windows. I was so excited. I'm like, oh, he's

Karen Kenney:

finally because I knew that the windows hadn't been done. I'm

Karen Kenney:

like, oh, he's gonna get the top thing. It's gonna be so great.

Karen Kenney:

And as he's finishing up, and as he's done, and as he's writing

Karen Kenney:

with his attitude, with his pen and his attitude, and he's

Karen Kenney:

writing down like something for me to put the invoices and give

Karen Kenney:

the thing to my friend who owns the business. I'm looking up,

Karen Kenney:

and all I can see through the windows, because the sunlight is

Karen Kenney:

coming in, is all these streaks, just like all these streaks. And

Karen Kenney:

there was a part of me that was just like, why is that okay for

Karen Kenney:

you? Like, why is that level of craftsmanship okay for you?

Karen Kenney:

Like, did you check your work? Did you look and see? Like,

Karen Kenney:

because, dude, you're letting whatever is going on inside of

Karen Kenney:

you right now affect externally the kind of work that you're

Karen Kenney:

doing, and the reason why it kind of pained me, on top of the

Karen Kenney:

level that, like, it was almost as if this person didn't give a

Karen Kenney:

shit, and we're gonna get into that. What that says personally

Karen Kenney:

sometimes, or how people can view that. What also bothered me

Karen Kenney:

about it is that there's no way that I would ever recommend that

Karen Kenney:

guy, and I thought to myself, if another business owner that I

Karen Kenney:

know needed like their windows cleaned or whatever, I now know

Karen Kenney:

this this business's name, and I would never ever ever ever ever

Karen Kenney:

recommend this person because I've seen their quality of work,

Karen Kenney:

I've seen their quality of care, I've experienced their attitude.

Karen Kenney:

Like I said, the attitude I can get it.

Karen Kenney:

Like we all have bad days, but I was like the fact that you're

Karen Kenney:

like, the fact that you're coming in here, and you're kind

Karen Kenney:

of making a mess, and you're kind of just like slamming

Karen Kenney:

things around, and you're not making an effort to do the best

Karen Kenney:

because if that's the best job that you could do, you should

Karen Kenney:

not be a window washer. That's all I'm gonna say, you know. And

Karen Kenney:

so here's the thing, I believe this. When half-assing it

Karen Kenney:

becomes okay with you, when your attitude becomes like, "Yeah,

Karen Kenney:

whatever, that's good enough. Granted, there will be times,

Karen Kenney:

right, when duct tape is the answer. There are gonna be, of

Karen Kenney:

course, certain situations where the half-ass is all you can do

Karen Kenney:

because you have a lack of resources, you have a lack of

Karen Kenney:

skill, a lack of time, whatever. You're just crossing your

Karen Kenney:

fingers and hoping the duct tape sticks till it gets you to the

Karen Kenney:

thing. You put the mini ha ha wheel on when the when the

Karen Kenney:

full-size tire breaks down and you don't have a backup tire,

Karen Kenney:

you put on the little one and you cross your fingers and you

Karen Kenney:

hope you can get to the gas station or back home safely or

Karen Kenney:

whatever. I get it. We don't all have the sometimes the luxury,

Karen Kenney:

right, or the resources to do it the way we would want to do it.

Karen Kenney:

It's a wing and a prayer. We recycle, we upcycle, we you know

Karen Kenney:

we repair what we have. I just sewed one of my sweetie shirts

Karen Kenney:

yesterday, right? I've sewed this thing like four times in

Karen Kenney:

the past, and we both love the shirt. And I'm like, all right,

Karen Kenney:

sweetie, I think we've come to the place where this is going to

Karen Kenney:

be the last time I repair this. After this, it's going to have

Karen Kenney:

to be recycled. You know, we're going to do something with it.

Karen Kenney:

But I get it, right? Sometimes with your resources, you got to

Karen Kenney:

do what you got to do. But what you don't have to do is a

Karen Kenney:

half-ass job with your craft, with the thing that you do for a

Karen Kenney:

living. Like, why be shitty at your job? Why not have like what

Karen Kenney:

I consider to have your own code? And we can look at having

Karen Kenney:

a code. I want to do a whole episode about having a code. I'm

Karen Kenney:

just going to briefly touch on it here, but we got to have our

Karen Kenney:

own code, which means don't we want our work to reflect our own

Karen Kenney:

level not only of care for the customer or the client, but also

Karen Kenney:

our own self respect, our own self integrity, right? Like I'm

Karen Kenney:

like, there are gonna be days. Let's say like you're you're

Karen Kenney:

working out, right? Like I'm I'm you know strength training, da

Karen Kenney:

da da da, three days a week, blah blah blah. The only person

Karen Kenney:

it hurts, right? If I half-ass my workout is me. That's. On me,

Karen Kenney:

that's a decision that I make, and I'm like, I don't have the,

Karen Kenney:

you know, I don't have the energy. I do not have the whoop

Karen Kenney:

ass in the can today. I'm feeling run down. I'm feeling

Karen Kenney:

tired, but I'm going to give it my best, right? Sometimes your

Karen Kenney:

best might not be good enough, but at least the effort is

Karen Kenney:

there. At least you cared enough to like do it. But when somebody

Karen Kenney:

is paying you with their hard-earned money, with their

Karen Kenney:

possibly limited resources, but they need your skill set. Why

Karen Kenney:

wouldn't you want to go above and beyond? Why wouldn't you?

Karen Kenney:

You know why most people don't do it because there's a lack of

Karen Kenney:

self-not just integrity, but there's a lack of

Karen Kenney:

Self-management. You have to be able to manage the moment. You

Karen Kenney:

have to be able to pull your shit together and be like, "I'm

Karen Kenney:

about to walk into this business right now. It doesn't matter

Karen Kenney:

that I had a, I don't know, a fight with my sweetie. Doesn't

Karen Kenney:

matter that I had a bad night's sleep. It doesn't matter that

Karen Kenney:

maybe you know I'm not feeling great, but whatever the thing

Karen Kenney:

is, right? And trust me, I get it, right? Sometimes people are

Karen Kenney:

sick. Some people sometimes people don't feel good, and they

Karen Kenney:

still have to go to their job because they got to make rent

Karen Kenney:

and put food on the table. I'm not saying that. I get it.

Karen Kenney:

We all have bad days, but if consistently your attitude is

Karen Kenney:

shitty, and consistently your quality of work is not up to

Karen Kenney:

par. If it's half-assed, then you might want to choose to go

Karen Kenney:

work somewhere else. I've known people who have maybe been in

Karen Kenney:

jobs or gigs or whatever where other people would be like,

Karen Kenney:

"That's the last gig that I would ever want. Whatever it is,

Karen Kenney:

I I don't want to even mention a particular job because I I just

Karen Kenney:

think if you're a hard worker and you're putting in the time

Karen Kenney:

and the effort and you're trying to get paid, God bless you, man.

Karen Kenney:

You know what I'm saying? But there are some things where

Karen Kenney:

people might be like, oh my God, they do that job. How could they

Karen Kenney:

be? I'm like, to me, when somebody is doing, especially

Karen Kenney:

like a blue collar job or a hard working job or whatever, a

Karen Kenney:

manual labor job, and they do it with a smile on their face. They

Karen Kenney:

do it with genuine curiosity and care for the people that they're

Karen Kenney:

serving and the work that they're doing. Oh my God, I have

Karen Kenney:

such deep respect for that. I have so much admiration and

Karen Kenney:

respect for that. And I-that's how I was raised. And I try to

Karen Kenney:

right a lot of again, as I said, a lot of things in my childhood

Karen Kenney:

didn't go well. But that had working attitude and giving a

Karen Kenney:

shit and doing your best and trying to show up to your best

Karen Kenney:

potential. And look, we all fall short sometimes. Every single

Karen Kenney:

one of us, because we're human. We're not robots. We're not

Karen Kenney:

perfect. We're not fucking little AI bots, right? We have

Karen Kenney:

feelings, we have moods, we have bodies. We like sometimes have

Karen Kenney:

diarrhea, sometimes we're crampy, sometimes we're

Karen Kenney:

exhausted, sometimes we're whatever, right? I get it. This

Karen Kenney:

being human is not easy, but what I'm saying is we should all

Karen Kenney:

have our own kind of code of conduct and what we're willing

Karen Kenney:

to do, and like meaning like the level of care that we want to

Karen Kenney:

show, and it bummed me out for that guy because I now I'm like

Karen Kenney:

I can't in good conscience and not that not like look it's not

Karen Kenney:

like everybody's running to me and asking me like do you have a

Karen Kenney:

guy who washes windows but if it were to ever come up there's no

Karen Kenney:

way in good faith I could recommend that person. I just

Karen Kenney:

wouldn't do it, and that's too bad, right? Because that's

Karen Kenney:

potential lost business. But more importantly, I was like,

Karen Kenney:

why don't you give a shit about what you're doing and what

Karen Kenney:

you're leaving behind? And you guys know, if you listen to this

Karen Kenney:

podcast, the thing I say at the end of every episode is

basically like:

Can we just leave each other? Can we leave

basically like:

the animals and the people and ourselves and the planet and the

basically like:

environment and the situation like better? Can the thing be

basically like:

better for you having been there? Can you leave things and

basically like:

people better? Because if you can't, like, what are you doing?

basically like:

Like, take a look at that. Do you know what I'm saying? And

basically like:

this is a call, like I said, for all of us, right? Because when

basically like:

you half-ass it and you start to normalize half-assing it in one

basically like:

area, it can have like a trickle effect, right? It can have that

basically like:

trickle effect. That little bit of poison can spread, and it

basically like:

starts to get easier to make excuses in other areas, you

basically like:

know. And also, the other thing I would say: this is another

basically like:

tricky, tricky thing to look out for. If you're willing to go

basically like:

above and beyond for everybody else in your work and other

basically like:

people, but you make yourself last and you do like a shitty,

basically like:

half-assed job for your own mental health or the quality of

basically like:

the food that you eat, or the rest that you're getting, like

basically like:

if like why, like why don't half ask yourself either, don't half

basically like:

ass your dreams, your life, your work, your art, your

basically like:

relationships. And I know it's hard, you guys. I know people

basically like:

were all exhausted, aren't we? Aren't we all just a. Little

basically like:

fucking tired right now, right? It's like I could turn on this

basically like:

mic. What episode is this? Like 383 or whatever. I've been doing

basically like:

this for like over seven years.

basically like:

It's like I could just be like, ah, fuck it. I'm just gonna dial

basically like:

it. I'm just gonna like phone it in. I'm just gonna half ass it.

basically like:

It's like no, and I don't even get paid for this. I lose money

basically like:

having a podcast for Christ's sakes, but if I'm gonna do

basically like:

something, I'm gonna really try to pour my hat into it, you

basically like:

know, because that's the key that I kind of want. It's like

basically like:

occurring to me as I'm saying it out loud. When you're

basically like:

half-assing it, another way to say that is to half-hat it.

basically like:

You're half hotting it, and I don't want half-hatted anything.

basically like:

Yeah, I made you this meal, but I half-hatted it. Yeah, I'm

basically like:

teaching this yoga class, but I'm gonna, I'm gonna half-ass

basically like:

it. I'm gonna half-hat it. It's like what I'm gonna I'm gonna

basically like:

hold right club, but can you imagine? Can you imagine like

basically like:

showing up, paying money to a workshop where the person just

basically like:

is like unprepared and they don't give a shit and they're

basically like:

just like whatever? Or imagine me doing like a Thai yoga

basically like:

massage where I'm just doing like sloppy work and I'm not

basically like:

paying attention and I don't give a shit about the quality of

basically like:

the experience-it's like, are you out of your mind? Oh my god!

basically like:

But look, a lot of people normalize this. We normalize the

basically like:

half-assing, and I don't want to do it. And I don't want you

basically like:

guys. I don't want my listeners to do that. I want you. This is

basically like:

like my desire for you. You know, I talked about this once

basically like:

before, where I said to somebody, I walked into their

basically like:

space, and you know, when we got talking about like what was

basically like:

going on, I said to them, like, why is this? Why have you made

basically like:

this quality like okay for yourself? Like, don't you want

basically like:

more for yourself? Don't you think you deserve more? This was

basically like:

not a mean thing I was saying. P.S. By the way, this was a a

basically like:

conversation we were you know both having. I wasn't being

basically like:

mean. I wasn't being fresh, and I was like, "Don't you want

basically like:

more? Because like I want more for you. And at the end of the

basically like:

day, though, here's the thing: you're you're you're a spiritual

basically like:

mentor, you're a coach, you're support team, you're whatever,

basically like:

right? You're we can't we can't want more for you than you do.

basically like:

You've got to also want it. You've also got to want it, and

basically like:

how you show up in the world, and how you leave people, and

basically like:

how you leave your jobs, and how you leave your work, and I mean

basically like:

leave like what you leave behind after you give the invoice or

basically like:

whatever. Like it matters because it's how you build a

basically like:

reputation. It's how you build a name. And like I said, I know

basically like:

sometimes we just have bad days. But if you are finding that you

basically like:

are consistently half-assing it, consistently phoning it in,

basically like:

consistently feeling like, oh, my hat is only half in this. Who

basically like:

wants to be in any kind of relationship, transactional or

basically like:

otherwise, where where one person is just my hat's only

basically like:

half in it. So I want you to be full-headed with yourself and

basically like:

your work, whatever you're creating, right? Whether you get

basically like:

paid for it or not, but like your presence, your energy, your

basically like:

attitude, your curiosity, your enthusiasm. Right? Let's stop

basically like:

half-hatting it. Let's stop half-assing it, and let's let

basically like:

let's full-ass. Let's go. Start to get a little punchy. Let's

basically like:

let's full-ass it, right? Let's full asset. Let's full hot it,

basically like:

and hopefully, hopefully, something I said today lands.

basically like:

And you know, maybe it's something you needed to hear.

basically like:

Maybe you've just been, like I said, dialing it in, phoning it

basically like:

in, just kind of dragging ass and being like, whatever. But

basically like:

let's go back to these words. This is important. Mediocre,

basically like:

insignificant, inadequate, ineffective, incompetent,

basically like:

incomplete, not serious, haphazard. I hope you never get

basically like:

called any of those things. You or your craftsmanship. You or

basically like:

your art. You or your work. Right. So that's it. Right.

basically like:

Let's all do our best to have a level of effort, a level of

basically like:

care, a level of love that we're pouring into a thing because

basically like:

that's really what this is about. When you half-ass it and

basically like:

you half-hearted, what you're doing is you're being stingy

basically like:

with your love.

basically like:

You're not tapping in to your fullest capacity, and again, I

basically like:

know there's somebody out there saying, "But you don't

basically like:

understand my situation. I'm exhausted. I'm caretaking. I'm

basically like:

doing the. I understand this nuance to everything. Who this

basically like:

message is right for? You'll know. You'll hear this, and

basically like:

you'll go." Yeah, right. Like, yeah, maybe I want to. Right,

basically like:

you're gonna. It's gonna land. You'll know. So if it doesn't,

basically like:

if this isn't about you, then it's not about you. So that's

basically like:

all I want to say because this is about really. This is about

basically like:

really. It's about love and paying attention to our

basically like:

craftsmanship. That is showing love, showing up full-heartedly.

basically like:

That is showing love, not half-assing it. What half-assing

basically like:

says basically is, I don't really give a shit. I don't

basically like:

really care. And that's not how you're going to grow your

basically like:

relationships. It's certainly not how you're going to grow

basically like:

your business. So that's what I got for you guys today. Okay,

basically like:

little little love note from my hat, from my hat to yours, and I

basically like:

just appreciate you. If you're here, you can still hear the

basically like:

sound of my voice. Thank you so much for tuning in and

basically like:

listening. It's the beginning of September. I have all kinds of

basically like:

shenanigans coming up in September. I have a right club

basically like:

at the end of the month here in Concord, New Hampshire,

basically like:

Saturday, September 26, from 12 to 4. You can remember

basically like:

everything you can find@karenkenney.com online. I

basically like:

have space for some Thai yoga massage clients, Thai yoga body

basically like:

work clients this month. I would love to see some new people come

basically like:

in. My old people are pretty consistent, right? My regulars

basically like:

they come in. Some people weekly, some people monthly. So

basically like:

that's fantastic. My yoga class is already sold out, but once in

basically like:

a while somebody's vacationing or whatever in this room for a

basically like:

drop-in. So you can always just hit me up and say, "Hey, any

basically like:

room for a drop-in this week? Whatever, and of course the nest

basically like:

is ongoing. The nest is there, and you can again, you can find

basically like:

it all on KarenKenney.com. Just look up at the header. You'll

basically like:

see all the stuff, right? Yoga, bodywork, Thai yoga, right club,

basically like:

all the stuff. Okay, so just thank you for tuning in. I

basically like:

appreciate you. I hope you enjoyed your labor day and that

basically like:

you're having. And that's the other thing too. It's great

basically like:

timing, right? It's great timing that this is labor day. A lot of

basically like:

respect for people who labor. A lot of respect, right, for for

basically like:

the people who labor, and especially you know, being a

basically like:

blue collar kid from Lawrence, Mass, I have a soft spot in my

basically like:

heart for hard workers and people who care about the

basically like:

quality of their work. So, little love letter from from

basically like:

from me to all the blue collar workers out there too. Okay, you

basically like:

guys have a fantastic rest of your day wherever you go. May

basically like:

you leave the animals and the planet and the other people,

basically like:

excuse me, and yourself and the environment better than how you

basically like:

found it. Wherever you go, may you and your love and your

basically like:

energy and your presence and your attitude and your your full

basically like:

heartedness, right? Your haughtiness may it be a

basically like:

blessing. Bye. Hey, thanks so much for listening to the show.

basically like:

I really love spending some time together. Now, if you dig the

basically like:

show or know someone that could benefit from this episode,

basically like:

please share it with them and help me to spread the good word

basically like:

and the love. And if you want to be in the know about all of my

basically like:

upcoming shenanigans, head on over to KarenKenney.com/signup

basically like:

and join my list. It'll be wicked fun to stay in touch.

basically like:

Bye.
